Gifts

I’ve seen a lot lately about how everyone has a gift they were born with, a talent that comes naturally to them, the reason we are all on the earth.  Most people do not follow their gifts for whatever reason; most do not believe that they can survive on it alone.  Most people do not believe in their gifts.

But does everyone indeed have a gift?  I would like to think so.  There is always one or two things that we are drawn to but sometimes too afraid to pursue.  If we decided to dedicate as much time cultivating our gifts as we spend on social media, games, or television, I think most people would be surprised at how truly great they are at their gifts.  Life has a way of showing you what you are good at; there is usually something that comes naturally to you that may not to others well; that’s your gift.  How do we cultivate something we may be a little good at, the same way you would improve any skill, by doing more of it on a regular basis.  How do I get better at writing if I only think about writing and never actually write?  How do I improve my fitness if I only think about getting in shape but never actually move?  Time is required in all skill sets, time, and repetition.  When people succeed at anything, they have spent time getting better at it.  Logically most people know how to improve upon their gifts; undoubtedly, most people do not dedicate the time it takes to be successful.  Distractions can be more motivating, more inviting because distractions do not judge; they simply take you away from reality and erase your time.  It is easier to avoid something you may be good at with a bit of practice than to discipline yourself into dedication and true masterly.

Every person must decide for themselves if they want to take the time to discover their natural skill and lean into it or get to the end of their life and wish they had.  We all have something that sparks us deep inside; don’t waste time thinking it would be nice if I could do that, instead learn, and simply try.  You may surprise yourself.  You may find your calling and what you were meant to do in this world, and if not, you may discover that just trying will bring you complete happiness.
